Humans and agents, working together

A migration, not a restart
Most importers drop your custom fields, leave attachments behind, and duplicate everything if you run them twice.
Here is what Plane's importer carries, and what it does not.
| Object | A typical importer | |
|---|---|---|
| Custom fields | Dropped | Carried as properties with their options; unsupported kinds listed |
| Attachments | Links back to Jira | Re-uploaded, on issues and comments |
| Sprints, versions, components | Not carried | Cycles, releases, modules, with dates and members |
| Running it twice | Duplicates | Updates what changed, matched on Jira identity |
| Jira Server and Data Center | Cloud only | Cloud, Server, and Data Center, with resume after a failure |
| Workflows, boards, dashboards, automations | Not carried | Not carried. Rebuilt in Plane; the migration guide lists every object |
| Service management, SCIM, issue security levels | Not carried | Not in Plane today. Said before you start |

FAQs
What to check, what carries over, and how to move your team to Plane.
How do we know Plane fits the way our team works?
Start with the comparison for your current tool, then test a representative project in Plane. Check the states, fields, views, permissions, and integrations your team relies on before planning a wider move.
What can we bring from our current tool?
Plane has importers for Jira, Linear, Asana, ClickUp, Confluence, and Notion. The records and fields that transfer depend on the importer. For tools such as Monday, prepare a CSV with columns matching Plane’s template.
What will we need to set up in Plane?
Plan to configure and test your workflows, permissions, views, dashboards, automations, and integrations in Plane. Use your importer’s documentation to check what transfers, then validate the setup with the people who use it every day.
Can we move from Jira Data Center?
Yes. Plane’s Jira importer supports Jira Cloud, Server, and Data Center. Review the mapping for your custom fields, attachments, and issue relationships in a pilot import. You can self-host Plane if keeping work on your infrastructure is a requirement.
Can we try one project before moving the team?
Yes. Use a pilot project to validate your data, test workflows, and estimate the time needed for the wider move. Keep your current tool available during that review. Jira imports can be rerun to resync data; CSV imports create new items each time.
Can we keep Plane on our own infrastructure?
Yes. Plane offers Cloud, self-hosted, and Airgapped editions. For self-hosted migrations, use Commercial Edition and check your importer’s requirements. For an isolated network, talk to us about Airgapped Edition and how to bring your data into it.
Can Plane help with a complex migration?
Yes. Enterprise Grid includes migration and implementation services. Share your current setup, required workflows, and hosting needs with our team so we can scope the move and help you choose the right plan.
What if we’re still paying for our current tool?
Share your current contract with our sales team. We’ll review the remaining term and cost, and discuss how contract matching applies to your move. You can evaluate Plane while that conversation is underway.
Can we take our data with us if we leave Plane?
Yes. Export work items as CSV, Excel, or JSON, and pages as PDF, Word, or Markdown. Self-hosting also keeps your database on infrastructure you control.
Your switch to Plane is free
We will cover the cost of the remainder of your current contract and your existing tools. Send us your contract, and we will match it or beat it.
